Benefits of heating your home with a wood pellet fire Wood pellets give you a real flame with much less cleaning and maintenance compared to a log burner. With pellet fires, fuel is drip fed into the flame as needed, and turned off when you don't need the heater on. So pellet fires are more fuel efficient than log burners. Premium pellets have an ash content of less than 1 percent. So a 20kg bag of pellets will leave less than 200grams of fine mineral ash for disposal or fertilising your veggie garden. Pellet fires have low particulate emissions and meet or exceed National Emission Standards. Most pellet fires will burn for 20 hours or more on a 20kg bag of pellets. Because a fan is used to draw combustion air through the fire, just a short 75mm or 100mm vent pipe is needed. The bigger diameter tall "natural draft" chimneys required by log burners are not necessary, saving you money on installation. Some pellet fires run on 12V DC electrics and have a battery back-up system so you just keep on heating even during power failures.
